
TUCSON, AZ – Pinch-hitter Zander Tubbs doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday as Carthage College defeated University of Jamestown Baseball 5-4 in the Tucson Invitational Games.
Triston Madison had two hits and two RBI for the Jimmies (12-3), giving him nine RBI for the weekend. His first inning RBI single gave Jamestown a 1-0 lead.
Carthage took the lead with two runs in the third before UJ evened the game in the sixth. Jordan Singleton scored on a throwing error following a bunt by Jett Nelson.
Carthage took a 4-2 lead with two 8th inning runs, but the Jimmies responded with two tying runs in the top of the ninth. Madison singled, and it led to a throwing error which allowed both runs to score.
Austin Shelton (0-1) lost, giving up the winning run in the Carthage ninth. Starter Jack Howard struck out seven in four and two-thirds innings.
The Jimmies will meet Benedictine Mesa in a doubleheader Tuesday.
