JAMESTOWN – After this season, the Jamestown-Valley City State football rivalry will likely end for the foreseeable future. So, why not have the “Paint Bucket” game twice?
Two games against VCSU and other conference rivals are part of the 2024 University of Jamestown Football schedule, released Wednesday.
Actually, it’s a necessity for UJ to play everyone in conference twice this coming season. The Jimmies, in what is expected to be their final season as an NAIA member, will return to the North Star Athletic Association, which has only five schools.
Jamestown will open the season with three straight games on the road and five of the first six away from the Buffalo City. The Jimmies will meet future NSIC foe UMary in Bismarck on Thursday, August 29, Jamestown’s first game against the Marauders since 2006. Then, UJ will play Chadron State on Thursday, September 5 in Chadron, Nebraska. The Jimmies haven’t played the Eagles in football since 1989.
NSAA play will then begin against Dakota State in Madison, South Dakota on Saturday, September 14, followed by the home opener at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium against Mayville State on Saturday, September 21.
Consecutive road games follow on September 28 at Dickinson State and at Valley City State on October 12 before a home game with Dakota State on October 19.
Jamestown will play at Mayville State on October 26 before two straight home games to end the regular season, with Dickinson State on November 2 and with VCSU on November 16.
