JAMESTOWN (courtesy of  The Valley City State softball team took a Thursday sweep over Viterbo in a conference doubleheader played in the Nelson Family Bubble on the University of Jamestown’s campus.

VCSU used a big third inning in the series opener to defeat the V-Hawks 6-5. Logan Gronberg then solidified a win in game two with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead they would hold onto the rest of the way. Gronberg also had a successful night in the pitcher’s circle, picking up a pair of saves while allowing just one hit in four innings pitched.

VCSU improves to 14-15 on the season and 6-3 in conference play. Viterbo drops to 6-21 on the season and 3-6 in the North Star. The Vikings and V-Hawks play another doubleheader Friday at 4/6 p.m. at the Nelson Family Bubble.
