CRETE, NE – Early runs and solid pitching gave Jamestown Baseball one win on Saturday, but the ninth-ranked Doane Tigers put together another of their big innings for a split.

Jamestown won the opener of a doubleheader Saturday over Doane 10-1 before Doane took the second game 7-3 at the Doane Ballfield Complex.

Game 1: Jamestown 10, Doane 1

Avery Liestman (4-0) pitched a complete game five-hitter for the Jimmies (19-8, 5-4 GPAC), allowing just a run and five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.  Alex Alva had three hits and four RBI.

Alva broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run in the top of the third.

UJ added three more runs in the fourth on a Jordan Singleton solo home run and RBI singles by Isaiah Roebuck and Alva.

After Doane (22-5, 8-1) scored in the fifth, Jamestown scored four in the sixth on an Alva single, a wild pitch and a two-run single by Ryan Muizelaar.

Roebuck singled in Jamestown’s final run in the seventh.

Game 2: Doane 7, Jamestown 3

Jamestown scored twice in the first inning without a hit.  Muizelaar had an RBI ground ball and Singleton hit a sacrifice fly.

Doane scored single runs in the first and second innings, but UJ (19-9, 5-5) regained the lead on another sacrifice fly by Singleton in the top of the fifth.

The Tigers (23-5, 9-1) then rallied in the bottom of the fifth, knocking out Jack Howard (3-2).  A wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run before Nate Mensik hit his second three-run triple in as many days.

The Jimmies are scheduled to have their first home games of the season Saturday at Jack Brown Stadium against Northwestern.  Coverage will begin Saturday at 1:45 PM on Thunder 98.3.
