Lidgerwood, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The first pitch was recorded at 4:38 on Tuesday April 23rd in Lidgerwood as the crowd slowly filled into Kugler-Grumbo Memorial Field. Little did everyone now they were in for a marathon of a game and an instant classic.

The first inning for both teams went by quickly. The Tornadoes then got 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 errors. The Stars would get Ryan Roeder on with a base hit. He’d then steal 2nd base before getting caught stealing going to 3rd. Brogan Roney would then get the next 2 batters. He’d face the minimum number of batters for the first 4 innings of play. Oakes would get men on base every inning of the ball game but wouldn’t get a man across the plate for the rest of the regular innings.

Oakes would maintain a 4-0 lead up till the the 5th when the Stars would again get Roeder aboard this time via walk. He’d get to 3rd then score on a passed ball making it 4-1. The Tornadoes would hold onto the lead till the 7th when the Stars would load the bases on a hit and 2 walks. Roney would then strike out the next batter before hitting his pitch count. Deagan Roerich would come in to try to earn the save. However Cameryn Taylor hit what would normally be a routine fly ball to left that got caught in the wind and fooled Noah Wood in left. This would end up being a 2 run double bringing the score to 4-3. The tying run would then score on a wild pitch. Taylor would then get caught in a run down between 3rd and home becoming the 2nd out. The bases would get loaded once more before Roerich would get the third out via strike out.

The closest anyone would get to scoring would be the Stars in the 8th. They’d get Mason Mauch to 2nd base but he’d get caught stealing going for 3rd. No one else would get past 1st till the 10th.

The Tornadoes would be the first to strike in the extra innings. Max Walock would reach first on a walk with one out and steal second. Braxton Wyckoff would then reach on an infield hit then steal second to put runners in scoring position. Cooper Quandt would then drive them home making it 6-4. To start the bottom of the 10th the Stars would get their first two men aboard via walks. Roerich would then be replaced by James Throener. Ryan Roeder would then get a 1 out single to load the bases. Mauch hit a 2 run single to tie the game 6-6 and put 2 men on with 1 out. Throener would buckle down then and get the next 2 outs.

Chris Titus would reach 1st on a walk to lead off the 11th inning. Titus would then steal 2nd and take 3rd on a dropped third strike. Michael Hoistad would then pop out in foul territory to 1st making 2 outs. Walock would then pop up in the middle of the infield. The wind would again be an effect as it would fall safely on the infield grass scoring Titus and giving Oakes a 7-6 lead. Walock would then steal second and score off of a Wyckoff base hit to make it 8-6 before Quandt drilled a ball to left that would be caught ending the continued threat.

The bottom of the 11th was led off with a Taylor line drive that was caught at 3rd by Hoistad. Throener would then strike out the next batter. He would walk the next batter and Blaise Frolek would hit a hard hit ball to center to put the tying run at first. The game would end however with Eli Jarabek grounding into a fielders choice to short ending the game at 8:03 with an Oakes 8-6 victory.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Brogan Roney for his pitching. The winning pitcher was James Throener the losing pitcher was Travis Peterson.

These two teams will meet again on Monday April 29th in Oakes which can be heard on KDDR. Oakes in the meantime will be involved in the Enderlin Tournament on Friday April 26th – Saturday April 27th.
