CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – As the Jamestown Jimmies search for a first men’s volleyball national championship, they wanted to start well in pool play on Wednesday.  They did.

Jamestown topped host Mount Mercy on Wednesday 25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 25-13 at Alliant Energy PowerHouse.

The Cox brothers again led the Jimmies (22-1).  Caydann Cox had 11 kills (.320) with seven digs and three aces.  Caylor Cox scored 10 kills (.333) with nine digs and three blocks.  Tysen Myers scored eight blocks.  Gaven Hackley had 14 assists, six kills and five digs.  Gabriel Ocasio had 10 assists and seven digs.

UJ hit .225, while Mount Mercy managed only .067.  The Jimmies had 11 and a half blocks and the Mustangs had six.

Mount Mercy had lost to The Master’s on Tuesday, so Mount Mercy is eliminated from contention for the semifinal round.  Jamestown will meet The Master’s, the top seed, on Thursday evening, with the winner advancing to a semifinal match on Friday.
