BISMARCK – This is becoming a good habit for Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Basketball.
For the third time this season, Jimmies have swept the weekly NSAA awards, announced Monday, as Silas Bennion was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week and Owen Hektner was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Bennion, a senior guard, was named as the league’s Offensive POW for the fifth time overall and for the fourth time in the last six weeks. In a 75-68 victory Friday at VCSU, Bennion scored 18 points on six-of-13 shooting, three-of-six three-pointers and three-of four free throws. Saturday, as UJ won 78-71 at Mayville State to clinch a spot in the NSAA postseason semifinals, Bennion scored 25 on 10-of-20 field goals and three-of-five free throws. Silas is second in the North Star at 16.7 points per game and leads the conference with 3.3 assists a game.
Hektner, a junior forward, had five defensive rebounds, two steals and a block in the win over the Vikings. Against the Comets, Owen pulled down seven defensive rebounds and blocked two shots. Hektner’s 4.1 rebounds per game are tied for 11th in the NSAA.
