MINOT (NewsDakota)- Charles Dickens famously wrote “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times” and on Friday, the Carrington Cardinal girls basketball team experienced both extremes.
After the Turtle Mountain Braves scored 18 of the first 19 points of the game, Carrington dominated to overturn the deficit and advance to the Consolation Final of the Class A State Tournament with a 52-33 win on Friday afternoon inside the Minot State University Dome.
The Cardinals started the game 0/12 from the field, including 0/11 from deep against a packed-in 1-2-2 zone by the Braves, and with 1:57 remaining in the first quarter, it was 18-1 Turtle Mountain behind 4/4 from three. But Isabel Wendel had a four point possession to end the opening frame to cut the lead to 20-8 and, from there, Carrington flexed its’ muscle, allowing only 13 further points in the game.
Carrington forced 28 turnovers and won the points off turnovers statistic 36-6 and the fastbreak points 11-0. Further, the Braves shot only 16.7% (3/18) after halftime and did not have a field goal in the final 10:35 of the game.
The Cardinals wrap up their fantastic 2024-25 season in the Consolation Final on Saturday, taking on Dickinson Trinity, who beat Rugby 51-45 on Friday, with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 11:30am. The Cardinals defeated the Titans at the Carrington Holiday Shootout 65-37 on December 28.
