MINOT – 10 days after they were originally scheduled to do so, Jamestown Blue Jays Baseball opened its 2025 season Tuesday and dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Minot 12-2 and 5-4 in eight innings at Jack Hoeven Field.

Game 1: Minot 12, Jamestown 2 (5)
WDA favorite Minot scored four in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to break open a tight game.

With Jamestown down 2-0, Bennett Goehner hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third to bring the Blue Jays within a run.

Minot then scored four unearned runs in the fourth, an inning that included a two-run home run by Kellan Burke.

Jamestown’s Ethan Oettle had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but the Magicians then scored six runs in the fifth, with Easton Panasuk, Tre Stewart and Tegan Schindler all driving in runs.

Blue Jay starter Derek Hatlewick allowed six runs and seven hits in four innings with three strikeouts.

Game 2: Minot 5, Jamestown 4 (8)
After Jamestown rallied from a 4-2 deficit with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force extra innings, Stewart hit a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run for Minot in the top of the eighth.

Brenner Weber led off the bottom of the eighth for the Blue Jays with a walk and advanced to third, but Mason Joesph was retired on a called third strike to end the game.

Minot scored three first-inning runs, but Kale Verke hit an RBI single to drive in Jamestown’s first run in the second.

Eddison Walters scored from second on a wild pitch for the second Blue Jays run in the fourth.

The Magicians took a 4-2 lead in the fifth, but more hustle for Jamestown put the Jays down just 4-3 in the sixth. As Walters grounded into a force out, Braxton Perkins scored from the second base.

Thomas Newman singled with one out to start the tying rally in the bottom of the seventh for the Blue Jays. He stole second, then scored on an RBI single by Jaxon Kolpin, his fifth hit of the doubleheader in seven at bats.

Perkins pitched six innings in relief of Bennett Goehner, but took the loss.
