NEW ROCKFORD (NewsDakota)- A game that was bookended by wild innings and had an old-fashioned pitchers’ dual in between went against the Carrington Cardinals on Friday night.

After twice tying the game in the late innings, the South Border Mustangs scored three in the top of the eighth for a 7-4 win over the Cardinals on Friday night in the Carrington/New Rockford Baseball Jamboree.

The Mustangs (3-2, 2-2) scored twice in the first inning, but the Cardinals (2-5, 2-1) answered with two walks and a Max Whitman triple that scored Tate Wolsky before he scored himself on a wild pitch for a 3-2 lead.  From there, Carrington starter Josh Bickett (7 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) and South Border starter Cole Nitschke (5 2/3 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 9 K) dueled until the sixth when South Border tied it at 3.

Jameson Kutz drove home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth but again, South Border answered in the seventh with two outs as Parker Salwei had one of his four hits for the Mustangs, who then scored three runs in the eighth and Carrington stranded the bases loaded in the home half.

The Cardinals return to play on Saturday, facing North Star at 9:45am on YouTube and May Port-CG at noon on KDAK The Cardinal.
