MINTO (NewsDakota)- In 2025, when the Carrington Cardinals softball team scores, it’s usually a big, crooked number. And now, Midway-Minto knows it too.
Carrington scored at least four runs in three separate innings to earn a 15-5 win over the Mustangs in Region 2 play on the road on Friday. After getting a single run in the first, the Cardinals (4-3, 3-1) scored six in the second inning, capped by a 2-run inside-the-park home run from senior Kaydence VanRay for a 7-2 lead. Then the game settled until the sixth with the Mustangs (2-4, 2-4) pulling to within 7-4.
That is when Carrington put the foot on the gas, scoring four in the sixth on three hits and four in the seventh on three hits, including an inside-the-park home run by sophomore Calleigh Hewitt. Aubrey Neis was 3-for-3 with three runs scored in the win while Lauren Hendrickson drove in four runs as Carrington won their second straight game.
The Cardinals are back in action on Monday at Nelson County/Midkota, weather permitting.
