JAMESTOWN – They’re one win away.
Jamestown Jimmie Softball clinched at least a share of the NSAA Softball regular season title Friday with a sweep of Dickinson State 6-1 and 8-6 at Trapper Lawrence Field.
One win for the Jimmies in a Sunday doubleheader at Dickinson State would give the program its first outright regular season conference title since 2018 and the top seed in next week’s NSAA Tournament.
Game 1: Jamestown 6, Dickinson State 1
Jamestown (30-14, 14-3 NSAA) trailed 1-0 after a half inning, but scored two in the home first. Maddie Spaeth tied the game with an RBI single and Kayla Quintanilla made the score 2-1 Jimmies with a sacrifice fly.
Natalie Draper delivered an RBI single with two out in the Jamestown third for a 3-1 lead.
Three runs in the sixth put the game away for UJ. Tori Olson slammed a run-scoring triple, Sydney Grendler singled her in, then the final run scored on a wild pitch.
Hope Ransome (10-6) allowed an unearned run and five hits in a complete game.
Game 2: Jamestown 8, Dickinson State 6
Dickinson State (27-13, 13-5 NSAA) led 3-0 and 5-1 before Jamestown (31-14, 15-3) rallied.
The Jimmies cut the lead to 5-3 in the third when Ransome singled and Grendler drew a bases-loaded walk.
A fourth-inning rally tied the game. Lauren Weigel doubled in Trinity Gregg, then Draper singled in Weigel.
Weigel hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth for a 6-5 Jimmie lead, the first of the game for the home team. An error by DSU later in the inning improved the lead to two.
After the Blue Hawks scored in the sixth, Kate Geiszler drove in an insurance run with a double.
Maddie Hairgrove (10-1) pitched three and two thirds innings in relief for the win, striking out three and giving up a run and four hits.
Ransome hit three of the Jimmies’ 13 hits and recorded the last four outs for her fifth save.
