
DICKINSON – Jamestown Jimmies first baseman Ryan Muizelaar was named NSAA Baseball Player of the Year Wednesday, part of the presentation of the NSAA Baseball postseason awards at the Buck Auditorium at Kleinfelter Hall on the Dickinson State University campus.
Muizelaar, a senior from Grand Forks Red River, is leading the NSAA in hitting going into the conference tournament, which opens Thursday. He is batting .418 with 14 home runs and 53 runs batted in. Muizelaar hit safely in 17 of his last 20 regular season games and has 32 hits in his last 64 at-bats. Muizelaar has a career average of .341 in 156 games for Jamestown. He is UJ’s first conference player of the year since Landon Uetz in 2016.
Muizelaar was one of five Jimmies named first team all-NSAA. Others include:
Second baseman Alex Alva. The senior from Littleton, Colorado has rebounded from a mid-season hitting slump and is batting .337 with four home runs and 29 RBI. He shares the conference lead in stolen bases with 20.
Shortstop Landon Runge is also on the first team. The junior from Placentia, California, has been steady in his first season with Jamestown, batting .297 with two home runs and 20 RBI.
Joining them is center fielder Chase Burke. A senior from Minot, Burke has been excellent at the top of the Jimmies’ batting order, hitting .362 with five homers and 22 RBI. He shares the NSAA stolen base lead with Alva with 20. Burke’s career average in three seasons at UJ is .328 and he has stolen 60 bases.
The only Jamestown pitcher on the first team is righthanded reliever Ben Bohlmann, a junior from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bohlmann has pitched scoreless outings in 10 of his 15 relief appearances. He is 2-2 with a 1.40 ERA and three saves to tie for the conference lead.
Left fielder Ben Patton, right fielder Isaiah Roebuck and starting pitchers Ryan Radkey and Avery Liestman made the all-NSAA second team.
Patton, a junior from Bismarck Legacy, has excelled in his first year as a full-time starter, batting .337 with eight home runs and 44 RBI. He had three homers and eight RBI in one game in March.
Roebuck, a senior from Marana, Arizona, is completing his four-year career as a Jimmie with more fine play. He is batting .352 with a home run, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases. In 142 games for Jamestown, Roebuck has a career batting average of .322.
Radkey, a senior from Albany, California, is 4-2 with a 3.33 ERA, the fourth best in the NSAA. Radkey has two complete games, a shutout and 52 strikeouts in 51 and a third innings.
Liestman, a senior from Litchfield, Minnesota, has followed up a 7-1 junior year with a 6-3 record this season and a 4.50 ERA. Liestman has pitched three complete games.
Catcher and designated hitter Triston Madison was named honorable mention all-NSAA. The senior from Spokane, Washington, is completing an excellent four-year career by batting .333 with four home runs and 42 RBI. In 179 games as a Jimmie, including 170 starts, Madison is hitting .319 for his career.
Muizelaar, Alva and Burke were named Gold Glove winners.
At first base, Muizelaar has committed just one error in 336 chances for a fielding percentage of .997.
Second baseman Alva has just six errors in 166 chances.
Burke has 86 errorless chances this season and just four errors in three season.
Roebuck was named as Jamestown’s NAIA Champion of Character.
