JAMESTOWN – This season’s Jamestown Blue Jay Softball action has been, for the most part, not dull.
It was everything the opposite of that Thursday. Minot North took game one of a doubleheader from the Blue Jays 10-9 in eight innings at Trapper Lawrence Field, with the Sentinels’ Aven Kelly providing the difference on a two-run home run in the top of the eighth. A passed ball scored the winning run for Jamestown in the nightcap in an 8-7 Blue Jay win.
Game 1: Minot North 10, Jamestown 9 (8)
Kelly’s home run gave her her third and fourth RBI of the game. She had hit a two-run single to break a tie in a three-run sixth.
Jamestown (10-8-1, 7-6 WDA) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Avery Graves homered, a two-run blast, to cut the Minot North lead to 8-7 before an error tied the game.
Jamestown missed a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Kinlee Klettke was caught trying to steal home.
Maddie Hoff struck out eight.
Game 2: Jamestown 8, Minot North 7
A five-run seventh led the Blue Jays (11-8-1, 7-7 WDA) to a startling comeback win. Jamestown trailed 7-3 before Megan Jarrett hit a two-run home run. Following singles by Graves and Brynn Sorenson, Hoff reached on an error. Marissa Moltzen then tied the game with a two-run single. With Violet Bohl up and the bases loaded, Hoff scored on a passed ball to end the contest.
Jaelyn Sloan struck out five in a complete game win.
Jamestown will begin a weekend trip to Minnesota with a game against Staples-Motley on Friday.
