DICKINSON – The regular season champs have the postseason start they wanted.

Seven different players drove in runs Friday as Jamestown blanked VCSU 8-0 in six innings at Bravera Field at the Sanford Sports Complex in the Jimmies’ first game of the NSAA Softball Championship.

In the first three innings, Jamestown (33-15) managed only a walk against VCSU starter Maddy Zander.  Then, the Jimmies broke through for five runs in the fourth.  Natalie Draper hit an RBI single, followed by an RBI double by Kaitlin McCartney.  A wild pitch scored the third run of the inning, followed by RBI singles by Tori Olson and Sidnie Aasen.

Three more runs in the Jamestown sixth ended the game.  Sydney Grendler drove in a run while reaching on an error, Trinity Gregg singled in a run and Lauren Weigel doubled in the game-ending run.

Hope Ransome (11-7), named Thursday as the NSAA Pitcher of the Year, pitched a four-hit shutout for her eighth complete game and fourth shutout of the season.

On Saturday, Jamestown will play in the winners’ bracket against Dickinson State, whom they defeated last Sunday at Bravera Field to clinch the NSAA regular season championship.  Coverage will begin at 11:45 AM Saturday on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
