DICKINSON – A big “double” is just one win away for Jamestown Jimmies Softball.

Already the NSAA regular season champions, the Jimmies now need one more win to become tournament champions after a 5-1 winners’ bracket victory Saturday over Dickinson State at Bravera Field at the Sanford Sports Complex.

Kaitlin McCartney smashed her third home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field, to extend the lead for Jamestown (34-15) to four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Jimmies strung together three straight hits to produce their first two runs and break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth against Dickinson State starter Ava Jahner (9-2).  Lauren Weigel led off with an infield hit, then Maddie Spaeth knocked a triple to right center for the game’s first run.  Kayla Quintanilla followed with an RBI single.

Hope Ransome (12-7), who shut out VCSU in the Jimmies’ tournament opener on Friday, pitched five scoreless innings before Dickinson State (29-15) brought across their run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Brooke Lijewski, her third hit of the game.  She reached third with two out before Ally Farrington flew out to end the threat.

In the Blue Hawks’ seventh, an error and hit batter placed two runners on with one out.  Maddie Hairgrove entered into the circle for the Jimmies and retired HaiLeigh Davis on a fly out and Baylee Berg on a pop out for Hairgrove’s second save.

Ransome allowed a run and four hits in six and a third innings with two strikeouts and two walks.

Jamestown will play Sunday for its first conference tournament championship since 2018 against VCSU.  Coverage will begin Sunday at 12:45 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
