WISHEK – Recent bad fortune for Carrington Cardinal Baseball almost became good on Tuesday, but South Border had the last say.

Koltyn Vetter drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning as South Border defeated Carrington 10-9 for the Cardinals’ seventh straight loss.

Josh Bickett (0-3) was brought in to pitch in the seventh for Carrington (2-11, 2-5 Region 3B) and allowed a one-out walk to Blake Goebel.  After a force out by Parker Salwei, he advanced to second on a passed ball.  Berkley Frantz, who hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, was intentionally walked despite representing the winning run.  Cole Nitschke tied the game for South Border (6-3, 5-2) before Vetter’s winning hit.

Frantz’s home run had given South Border a 6-1 lead through four innings, but Carrington rallied for three runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Jacob Boeshans, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Max Whitman.

The Cardinals then stormed into the lead with four runs in the sixth inning.  Cody Otto hit an RBI single to cut the Mustang lead to one, then Bickett slammed a two-run double for a 7-6 Carrington lead.  Boeshans followed with an RBI single.

After South Border tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with two sacrifice flies, Whitman led off the Carrington seventh with his second home run of the season.

The loss assures that Carrington will play in the Region 3B tournament play-in game against Kidder County/Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter on Thursday, May 15.

Carrington will play Park River Area and Shiloh Christian on Friday in Thompson.  Coverage of the Park River Area game will begin at 10:45 AM, with coverage with the Shiloh Christian game at 2:45 PM, both on 1600/100.1 The Cardinal.
