
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City finalized contracts for the construction of a new Public Works Service Center during their regular board meeting on May 5th.
City Administrator Gwen Crawford said the city commission approved contracts for engineering design and architectural work. EAPC Architects & Engineers and McGough Construction were selected to guide the construction project.
Crawford introduced Thomas Dahl of McGough Construction to give the city commission updated numbers on the cost of the construction project and the construction schedule. Dahl said the total cost of the project is now $14,389,960 a drop of $610,040 compared to the original estimate of $15 million.
The site of new Public Works building will be located on the former site of the Valley Plains dealership on east main.
Earlier this year, the site received approval by the city commission for construction, despite Valley City residents raising concern about an environmental issue and the total cost of the project. She said the city conducted underground testing to determined if a bio-hazard existing below the surface. She said nothing was found to stop the project from moving forward.
On Monday, May 5th the Valley City Commission unanimously approved of an amendment to the construction manager at risk contract for a guaranteed maximum price of $10,685,685 construction of service center complex in Valley City.
