CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- The Carrington Cardinals softball team wrapped up their regular season on Monday by hosting Harvey/Wells County, and although the start was disastrous, the teams’ ability to fight back should serve them well in the postseason.

The Hornets (13-6) scored six in the top of the first and then held on for an 8-7 win at Carrington Softball Diamond on Monday afternoon.  After Kaydence Van Ray struck out the first batter she faced, H/WC collected six hits, six runs and a walk in the top of the first for a 6-0 lead.

Brynn Smith scored Maara Kutz in the third with a double and Kutz drove home Aubrey Neis in the fifth with a sac fly to make it 8-2.  Then things got crazy as Van Ray launched a solo homer in the sixth before Ella Volk had a run scoring double before Bailey Ness drove her home to make it 8-5.

In the seventh, Calleigh Hewitt had a two-run triple to cut the deficit to 8-7, but with nobody out in the inning, she was stranded with two strikeouts and a popout to the catcher that ended the rally.

The Cardinals open the postseason on Saturday.  Stay with NewsDakota for matchup details.
