burn-ban-8

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban in the county due to tender dry conditions until further notice.

Emergency Manager Jessica Jenrich said this burn ban prohibits the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage/pits, construction debris, fallen trees, crop residue or hay land, sloughs, campfires, and bonfires.

However, gas, charcoal, or wood-fired grills or gas camp stoves with a cover may be used so long as it is on a hard, non-organic surface and 15 feet or more away from vegetation and an extinguisher or water is available on site.

Any individual who willfully violates this burn bad is guilty of a Class B Misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail, and a $1,500 fine per incident, as well as the cost for fire suppression.
