TOLNA (NewsDakota)- In a regular season that has seen so many oddities and strange things, why would anyone expect something else in the last one?

Dresyn Hanson delivered a bases-loaded walk-off single in the last of the fifth inning to lift the Nelson County/Midkota Chargers to a 7-6 win over the Carrington Cardinals in a circumstance-shortened game on Tuesday afternoon in Tolna.

With Carrington (4-13) playing Kidder County in a playoff game on Wednesday, the two coaches agreed that this game, the second of the season between the two, would be reduced to five innings, but rest assured, the strangeness of the 2025 regular season did not take a break.

The Cardinals collected eleven hits in the game, including three from first-time starter Isaiah Oatis in three at-bats including an RBI, but twice they left the bases loaded in a game that saw twenty-one baserunners left in total.  Tate Wolsky had two doubles and drove home a run, as did Max Whitman and, for the first time all year, Taylen Mehring, as Carrington battled back from a 3-0 deficit for a 5-3 lead.

But the Chargers (8-8) scored two in the fourth to tie the game, and trailing in the fifth, they scored two runs off Carrington starter Ethan Roller and reliever Josh Bickett.

The Cardinals face Kidder County on Wednesday in the Region 3B Tournament play-in game with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal and the KDAK The Cardinal YouTube Channel beginning at 3:45PM
