VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Behind a gutsy complete game from sophomore pitcher Luke Praska, the Valley City Hi-Liners picked up their second win of the season Tuesday, defeating Fargo North 5-2 at home.

Praska was dominant on the mound, allowing just three hits and two runs across seven innings while pitching out of multiple jams to secure the victory.

The Hi-Liners gave him early run support, jumping on Spartans starter Kellen Dougherty for four runs in the first inning. Freshman standout Leighton Hendrickson highlighted the frame with a two-run triple down the line. Valley City added another run in the second when Jack Samuelson ripped an RBI double, extending the lead to 5-0.

Fargo North responded with two runs in the third as Praska briefly struggled with command. But the senior settled in and repeatedly pitched his way out of trouble, preventing any further damage.

Valley City threatened to blow the game open in the sixth after loading the bases, but couldn’t add to the lead. Still, Praska returned to the mound for the seventh. He induced back-to-back groundouts before Hendrickson sealed the win with a sliding catch in center field.

The Hi-Liners will close out the regular season Thursday with a doubleheader against the Shanley Deacons at Jack Williams Stadium. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 5 p.m.
