KLAMATH FALLS, OR – The final softball season in NAIA play for the Jamestown Jimmies featured steady play and a conference championship, but it came to an end on Tuesday.

Southeastern (FL) defeated Jamestown 8-3 in an NAIA Championship Opening Round elimination game at John and Lois Stillwell Stadium.

Ellie Brooks hit a go-ahead double in the bottom of the fourth for the Fire (42-10).  Starting pitcher Edan Playa (20-6), who had won in relief earlier Tuesday in Southeastern’s win that eliminated Arizona Christian, pitched her 19th complete game of the season.

Jamestown (36-17) scored first in the top of the second when Kaitlin McCartney hit her second home run of the postseason and fourth of the year.  Maddie Spaeth doubled in Lauren Weigel in the third inning for a 2-0 UJ lead.

Jimmie starter Hope Ransome (13-9) didn’t allow a hit in the first two innings and retired the first two batters in the Southeastern third before Chapel Cunningham singled and Hailey Brooks tied the game with a two-run homer.

After Ellie Brooks’ go-ahead double in the fourth, Cunningham singled off the glove of the Jimmies’ Maddie Hairgrove for a 5-2 Southeastern lead.  Kassidy Moore hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for the Fire.  Southeastern scored two more in the sixth on an RBI single by Hailey Brooks and a passed ball.

Jamestown’s final run came in the top of the seventh.  Sydney Grendler led off the inning with a triple and Sidnie Aasen, in her last at-bat as a Jimmie, singled Grendler in.
