Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Kindred Vikings no-hit the Oakes Tornadoes in the Opening Round of the 2025 Region 1 Tournament winning 11-1.
The Tornadoes got the scoring started first with James Throener getting aboard via a base on balls. Harry Neustal would then attempt to bunt him over but his bunt would pop up and be caught by the pitcher Eli Maack. Throener would’ve been doubled up but Maack would throw the ball into right field instead allowing Throener to tag up and get to second base. On the next batter he would steal third and the throw from catcher Graham Hesse would end up in left field allowing him to come home and give Oakes a 1-0 lead. They would get 1 more baserunner in the game later that inning when Michael Hoistad would be struck by a pitch. After that though the Vikings pitching staff would lock it down and put the next 13 Tornadoes down.
The Vikings couldn’t get much going until the 3rd inning when they would score 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 errors and chase Hoistad from the game. This would result in a 7-1 lead. They would tack on a 2nd run in the 4th inning then win it in the 5th inning on a Graham Hesse 2-RBI Double making it 11-1.
The winning pitcher was Eli Maack (2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s, 1 R, 0 ER), with Tyler Gronwald (2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 R) coming in for relief. Michael Hoistad (2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 BBs, 6 Ks, 7 R, 2 ER) gets the loss with Ben Wagner (1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks, 1 R, 1 ER) and Brooks Domine (.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER) came in relief.
The Tornados fall in the opening round and will now play HFCTRL on Thursday May 15th at Starion Field in Fargo at 5:00 pm. You can catch all of the action on KDDR The Tornado.
