WILLISTON – One big inning has Jamestown within one win of a state baseball tournament appearance.

The Blue Jays broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fourth inning Thursday to move past Dickinson 6-1 in the quarterfinal round of the Class A West Region baseball tournament at Williston State College’s Phil Tabor Field.

Walks helped contribute to the big rally for Jamestown (16-9).  Three batters took bases on balls in the big inning and all of them scored.

Jaxon Kolpin and Bennett Goehner started the inning with consecutive walks, followed by a Brenner Weber single to load the bases.  Ethan Oettle then drove in the first run of the inning on a fielders’ choice.  It was an attempt at a double play by Dickinson, but no one was retired.  Braxton Perkins then walked with the bases loaded for a 3-1 Jamestown lead.  A wild pitch by Dickinson starter Tyler Kudrna scored Braden Hemminger and the Blue Jay advantage became 4-1.  With one out, Cody Busch brought two runs in with a double.

Dickinson (19-12) pushed across their run in the first inning on a RBI groundout by Kudrna.

Jamestown evened the game when Goehner hit his first home run of the season and the Blue Jays’ fourth of the campaign to lead off the bottom of the second.

Blue Jay starter Kolpin (4-3) worked six good innings, allowing a run and four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  Perkins pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Jamestown will meet top seed Minot on Friday in a semifinal game.  The Magicians edged Bismarck High 1-0 on Thursday.  Coverage will begin at 3:45 PM on Friday on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
