VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – This year’s Summer Learning theme is Color Our World and our Summer Learning Kickoff Messtival will take place on Tuesday, May 27th from 4-6 pm at the library! We
invite people of all ages to join us for this fun-filled event. Plan to get MESSY at the Messtival with games and activities such as Color Tag, Paint Bombs, and Shave Cream Twister just to name a few! And yes, we will once again be serving an evening meal of hot dogs, BBQs, chips, veggies and fruit, and cookies for dessert.

The Kickoff event is your first opportunity to sign up for the Summer Learning program and to start earning
library bucks. When you sign up for Summer Learning you will receive your reading log, some goodies, and your very first library buck for the summer. You can sign up after the Kickoff event as well and start earning library bucks. Be aware though that Summer Learning will end on July 31st and you will have until September 2nd to spend your library bucks in the Summer Learning Store. What are library bucks? Library bucks are your
reward for reading at least 15 minutes per day and for attending any library sponsored event scheduled during the summer. The library bucks you earn can only be spent in our Summer Learning Store. There are lots of great gift cards, bags, and other novelty items for all ages to choose from in the store. The best part though is that you can attend some fun and interesting events, read great books (physical or digital), and get rewarded for doing it!

The Summer Learning event schedule begins on Wednesday, May 28th at 10 am with the City and County Emergency Vehicles displayed in the library parking lot for Story Hour. Bring the children to see all the cool trucks and machines used to care for our community and county. In harmony with our Color our World theme, we have many events that focus on art this summer. A few new events that will take place on Thursday evenings include Teen Craft Club, Upcycled Craft Night, and Build a Color Burst Teddy Bear. These events will require registration ahead of time so please check our calendar of events at vcbclibrary.org for details, dates, times, and the phone number for registering. Other new and interesting events planned include a Family Art Competition night, and Game Night. Tuesdays will be a big day for programming as well and will include some of our most popular events such as 2 pm afternoon movies (you can bring your favorite drink and the library will provide popcorn for free), and 5 pm Team Steam events.

On Friday, June 13th , at 11 am, we will host Project: Constellation who are an acoustic-folk-rock-punk-pop duo from Grand Forks, ND. They will be performing some violin and guitar Scandinavian music for us. On Wednesdays, our regular Story Hour and Circle Time events will continue through the summer beginning at 10 am and we will have a special guest during Story Hour for the summer! Daisy the service dog will be there to learn, listen, and get some attention along with those attending. Please check our calendars for more events scheduled for this summer! You can find the calendar online or you can pick up a paper copy at the library.

What is the best part of Summer Learning? All events are free and open to the public regardless of having a library card! Library cards are free though and having a library card provides you with access to loads of materials that can be checked out physically and digitally. The library provides many other services for members of our community, and you can find more information on our website (vcbclibrary.org) or visit the library and ask a friendly librarian.
