VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Valley City’s (District 130) Street Improvement project was successfully protested by affected property owners earlier this year.

On Tuesday, May 20th, the city commission approved of two resolutions to create paving improvement District 131. Under the plan, approximately 10 city blocks would be fully or partially reconstructed at a cost of $9.8 million. The 10 blocks include: 2nd St N – 3rd Ave NW to 5th Ave NE: for 6 blocks. 3rd Ave NE – Main St to 2nd St NE: for 1 block, and 4th Ave NE – Main St to 4th St NE: for 3 blocks. These are the blocks for the Paving Improvement District,

Other improvement districts including water main Improvement District 107, storm sewer Improvement District 57, and sanitary sewer Improvement District 71 do not encompass this entire area. That resolution approved the engineer’s report directing the preparation of detailed plans and specifications for those projects.

City Administrator Gwen Crawford said if the street improvement project is approved following the next protest period, bids would be let in October or November with construction starting in summer of 2026.

A Public Informational Meeting for this improvement project will be held Tuesday, June 10th from 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm in the City Hall Commission Chambers.

KLJ spokesman Chad Petersen said the purpose of the meeting is to provide background information, project needs, project funding, timeline, and answer any questions the public may have regarding the project.

More information regarding the meeting will be provided to the affected property owners through direct mailings, social media, and the media. Anyone with questions about this project should call Chad Petersen’s office at 845-9446.
