
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – There is one final public informational meeting and question and answer session available for the public to get their questions answered about the $46 million referendum set for Tuesday, June 10th in Valley City.
The public informational meeting will be held Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:30pm in the North Gym of the Valley City High School building. The Q&A session will be held Thursday, June 5th from 10am to 11am in the school district office. Some frequently asked questions are listed below.
Who Can Vote in the Upcoming School Referendum at Valley City Public Schools?
If you are a U.S citizen, at least 18 years or older, who lives in the Valley City Public School District (for 30 days prior to the Election Day), including apartment residents, you are eligible to vote. North Dakota does not require voter registration, but you do need to have a valid form of identification that can be used for voting. This means you should make sure you have proper identification with you before you go to the polls to vote. A valid form of identification can include a ND Driver’s License or another supplemental proof of residency (i.e. Utility Bill, Bank Statement, Paycheck). How Do I Know if I Live in the Valley City Public School District?
There are two ways to determine if you live in the Valley City Public School District. First, we have a link on our webpage showing the boundaries of the school district. https://www.hiliners.org/o/ vcsd/page/school-district-map. Yes, the school district does include all of city of Valley City. Second, if you are still uncertain if you live in the VCPS school district, you can look at your 2024 Barnes County Property Tax Statement. In the middle section of the statement, you will see the school district that you pay taxes to for the past three years. Below, is a screenshot showing the VCPS school district on a statement.

If the referendum passes, property taxes on a residential home valued at $100,000 would increase yearly by $336. While commercial property taxes would increase yearly by $373. Ag land taxes would increase by $3.60 per acre under this referendum.
