JAMESTOWN – Plenty of runs and a split marked the start of the Jamestown Eagles’ 2025 Legion baseball season.

On Tuesday, Jamestown won the opener of a doubleheader over LaMoure Post 19 9-6 at Jack Brown Stadium before LaMoure held on to win the second game 9-7.

Game 1: Jamestown 9, LaMoure 6
A five-run sixth inning rally gave the Eagles the season-opening victory. Bennett Goehner brought in Hudson Rode and Thomas Newman with a two-run single to tie the game 6-6 just after Goehner and Rode pulled off a double steal. Ethan Oettle followed with a run-scoring single for a 7-6 Jamestown lead. Braxton Perkins drove in the last two runs with a single.

Perkins drove in three, as he also had an RBI double. Cody Busch also hit an RBI double and Goehner hit a sacrifice fly.

Rode pitched two scoreless innings and allowed only one hit to earn the win on the mound in relief.

Game 2: LaMoure 9, Jamestown 7
LaMoure scored eight runs in the fourth inning for a 9-2 lead. Colby Thielges had a two-run single in the big inning.

Jamestown nearly rallied again. The Eagles cut the lead to 9-4 with two runs in the fifth on a single by Weber. Three more runs came in in the seventh on an RBI single by Jaxon Kolpin, a bases loaded walk by Cody Busch and a passed ball. Thomas Newman and Adam Sortland struck out with runners on second and third for the final two outs of the game.

Perkins took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings.

Jamestown will open play in the Valley City tournament Friday at Charlie Brown Field against Hillsboro-Central Valley.
