
JAMESTOWN – With late timely offense in the first game and early offense in game two, the Jamestown Eagles earned a home sweep Monday.
Jamestown took both ends of a Legion baseball doubleheader from Casselton 5-4 and 8-0 (5) at Jack Brown Stadium.
Game 1: Jamestown 5, Casselton 4
Braxton Perkins provided the difference for Jamestown (3-3) with an RBI single to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. It scored Kale Verke, who had singled and stolen second base.
Casselton (0-1) scored three runs in the top of the first inning before Jamestown rallied for three runs in the second. Perkins had an RBI single, later stole home, and a third run scored on a passed ball.
Casselton took a 4-3 lead in the visiting fifth, but the Eagles equaled the game in the bottom half of the inning on a passed ball.
Edison Walters (1-0) pitched a complete game, striking out five.
Game 2: Jamestown 8, Casselton 0 (5)
The sweep was assured for Jamestown (4-3) after a six-run third inning.
The Eagles scored on a passed ball in the first inning, then doubled the lead on a Newman RBI groundout in the second.
In the third, Walters drove in the first two with a single, a passed ball and error scored the third and fourth runs of the frame and Jaxon Kolpin singled in the last two tallies.
Cody Busch and Zander Wolsky combined on a one-hit shutout. Busch struck out two in two innings. Wolsky fanned two in three innings.
Jamestown will open AA play on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Mandan at Jack Brown Stadium. Coverage of the first game will begin at 5:15 PM on Jamestown 107.1.
