VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)  Valley City Public School District voters approved a $46 million referendum to build a new school Tuesday night.

The voters approved the referendum with more than 62 percent of the vote in a special election. The results are unofficial as a few more mail in absentee ballots are expected to arrived in the mail later this week that were postmarked by June 9th.

School district business manager Jackie Cordie made the announcement.

Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson thanked everyone in the Valley City Public School District who participated in the June 10, 2025, school referendum. He says we had an amazing voter turnout, your engagement in our school referendum has been recognized and appreciated.

Valley City School board president Sheri Horsager made this statement following the unofficial passage of the school referendum.

After counting the ballots, the unofficial results show that the VCPS School Referendum has passed, with 1158 (62.73%) voting Yes and 688 (37.3%) voting No. There were 1846 total ballots cast in this school referendum.

The school board will canvass the official results during the regular meeting on Monday, June 23rd at 7:00 AM. In the upcoming weeks, we will be excited to share more about the next steps for the school district moving forward with the plan to build a New School (grades 3-12) that will be connected to Jefferson Elementary School.
