FORMAN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Sargent Central School District asked voters to increase their levy up to 20 mills for their Building Fund during a special election on June 10th.
Superintendent Daniel Warcken said the measure failed with 107 yes votes to 88 no votes. 60% or more was need to pass the measure but if failed with only 54.87% approval following the unofficial results in the June 10th election.
He said the measure was asking voters to grant the school district authority to levy up to 20 mills for their Building Fund. North Dakota law requires voter approval before such a levy can be enacted. He said if measure would have passed, the funding would have support facility maintenance, capital improvements, and reduce both short and long-term strain on the district’s General Fund. He said the official results will be canvassed and certified at the school board meeting on Monday, June 23rd.
In other news, two school board members, Jayne Pfau and Jessica Rasmussen running unopposed were elected to the school board to serve another three-year term.
