Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – A leadoff triple and 2 doubles in the 1st inning gave the Oakes Post 36 Tornadoes a hot start the led to a dominant 8-1 victory over District 7 opponents Lidgerwood-Hankinson.
With Michael Hoistad on the mound, Lidgerwood-Hankinson were stumped for most of the start of the game. They would have only 2 baserunners across the first 3 innings of the game which included 5 straight strikeouts and 7 straight put outs. The Tornadoes on the other hand started off with a James Throener lead off triple in the 1st and a follow up double from Chris Titus to give Oakes the early 1-0 lead. Titus would then score off of a Zade Heier sac fly to make it 2-0. Noah Wood and Jace Fyre would then walk and be driven in by a Deagan Roehrich double to make it 4-0 through 1 inning of play.
The Tornadoes would add 3 more runs in the 2nd as Throener would get a 1 out single and Titus would walk. Hoistad would then drive in Throener with a double and Heier would bring Titus home on a single. Hoistad would then score on a passed ball making it a 7-0 game through 2 innings.
L/H would threaten in the 4th inning with Matthew Bladow, Eli Jarabek, and Sam Kreuse loading the bases with no outs. Hoistad would then buckle down and get 2 pop ups and a ground out to get out of the jam. The Tornadoes would score in the bottom of the 4th with Throener getting hit by a pitch then stealing 2nd. Titus would double him in making the game 8-0.
L/H would again threaten in the 5th inning as they’d get 2 on with 1 out. However that chance would vanish quickly as Bladow would line back to Hoistad who would double off Austin Jarabek at 1st to escape the inning. The score would change in the top of the 6th however. Eli Jarabek would reach on an E4. He would get around to third evenetually then a miscommunication between short, 2nd, and center resulted in a missed pop up allowing Jarabek to score making it 8-1.
L/H would get another chance in the 7th as they’d get Bladow aboard with two outs. Eli Jarabek would ground one towards 3rd where it’d be booted by Jace Fyre. He’d chase down the ball and throw out Jarabek at 3rd to end the ball game.
The winning pitch was Michael Hoistad (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 R, 0 ER). The losing pitcher was Jace Stenson (2.1 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 3 K, 7 R, 6 ER). Eli Jarabek (3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 K, 1 R, 1 ER) would come in relief.
