
MEDICINE HAT, AB – At last, there was a positive result in the Jamestown Eagles’ trip to Canada.
Jamestown broke a six-game losing streak Tuesday with a 4-3 win over the Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs at Jeffries Park in game one of a doubleheader. Medicine Hat rallied to win the second game 14-4.
Game 1: Jamestown 4, Medicine Hat 3
Bennett Goehner singled in the go-ahead run for Jamestown (6-10) in the top of the seventh. Thomas Newman began the rally with a walk and Kale Verke was hit by a pitch before Goehner’s winning hit.
After Medicine Hat scored their three runs in the second inning, Jamestown tallied two in their third on an error and an RBI groundout by Jaxon Kolpin. Verke tied the game with an RBI groundout in the fifth.
Thomas Newman helped both rallies with stolen bases. He stole five in the game.
Adam Sortland won on the mound with two innings of hitless relief, striking out three.
Game 2: Medicine Hat 14, Jamestown 4
Jamestown (6-11) again rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-2 lead, but Medicine Hat scored eight runs in the home fourth, then two more in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to end the game early.
Pryce Velichko rapped four hits and drove in three runs for the Moose Monarchs.
Newman stole home during the Eagles’ rally in the fourth. Mason Joseph was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Edison Walters drove in two with a single.
The Eagles will conclude their trip to Canada Thursday, playing in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
