JAMESTOWN – This season, at least for now, isn’t becoming any easier for the Jamestown Eagles.
Bismarck Governors swept a doubleheader from Jamestown Tuesday at Jack Brown Stadium 4-3 in nine innings and 10-1, giving the Eagles 11 losses in their last 13 games.
Game 1: Bismarck 4, Jamestown 3 (9)
Five errors hurt the Eagles, especially the last one, a throwing error by Cody Busch on a bunt that allowed Ryker Zietz to score the go-ahead run from first base in the top of the ninth inning.
Two errors by Jamestown (6-15, 1-6 AA) helped Bismarck score their first run in the top of the second. The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the same inning on hustle by Braxton Perkins. Originally caught in a rundown between second and third base, he beat the throw to third, then stole home as no one was covering the plate.
Bismarck (10-8, 2-3) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Cash Weisenberger, just after an error extended the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Bennett Goehner drove in a run with a groundout, then Jaxon Kolpin drove in the tying run with an infield hit as Kale Verke scored from second base.
Aiden Johnson pitched three perfect innings for the win for Bismarck. Kolpin struck out eight, but took the loss.
Game 2: Bismarck 10, Jamestown 1
The Governors’ Nathan Heil pitched six no-hit innings before Jamestown managed three hits and a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Joey Kraljic led the offense for Bismarck (11-8, 3-3 AA) with three hits and two RBI.
Thomas Newman drove in the run for Jamestown (6-16, 1-7) with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
This coming weekend, the Eagles will play in the Jim Pettersen Fargo-Moorhead Invitational Tournament, first playing Hamel (MN) on Friday on Moorhead.
