MOORHEAD (NewsDakota)- It’s been a difficult run of games during the Jamestown Eagles’ current seven game losing streak, and it got no better on Friday.
A five-run bottom of the first inning sent Hamel (MN) on their way in an 11-5 win over Jamestown on Friday at Mattson Field in Moorhead as part of the Jim Pettersen Fargo-Moorhead Invitational Tournament.
Adam Sortland delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead, but Hamel responded in their half of the first inning which included three unearned runs thanks to two Eagles errors and it was 5-1. But Thomas Newman singled home two runs and scored one himself in the second to cut the deficit to 5-4 for Jamestown (6-15).
Hamel again responded, scoring twice on three hits before adding a run in the third for an 8-4 lead. Bennett Goehner launched a solo shot in the fourth to cut the lead to 8-5 but Hamel answered with three more in the bottom of the fourth.
The Eagles continue play in the Jim Pettersen Fargo-Moorhead Invitational Tournament on Saturday, facing Tri City Red and the Moorhead Blues.
