JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -The city of Jamestown is modifying its approach to mosquito control this season, opting to focus on preventative measures due to lower-than-usual mosquito counts. While the city maintains two fogger trucks, they remain on standby as current numbers don’t meet the threshold for deployment.

“Our mosquito counts haven’t been high enough this year for the foggers to go out,” explained Tyler Michel, Public Works Director.

Instead, Jamestown is actively applying larvicides to sloughs and other bodies of water throughout the area. This method targets mosquito larvae before they can mature into biting adults, a proactive step to manage the population.

Notably, the city has not utilized aerial spraying for mosquito control in several years. “The only thing the city is not doing mosquito-wise is aerial spraying, which hasn’t been done in a few years,” Michel confirmed.
