JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -Motorists in Jamestown should prepare for new traffic shifts and detours as Phase 2 of the highway improvement project on US 52/US 281 is set to begin on Monday, July 14th. The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), in collaboration with TI-Zack Concrete Inc., anticipates completing this phase by Friday, August 15th, weather permitting.

This next stage of construction will focus on the outside lanes and right-turn lanes of US 52/US 281, stretching from 37th Street SE to 17th Street SW. Work will include Concrete Pavement Repair (CPR) and essential ADA-compliant pedestrian ramp upgrades. These affected outside and right-turn lanes will be closed to traffic during the construction period.

A significant impact for commuters will be a 7-day closure of the I-94 westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp at Exit 258, commencing on Tuesday, July 15th. This closure is necessary for critical CPR work on these ramps.

Traffic Impacts and Detours:

  • I-94 Eastbound Access to US 52/US 281: Motorists on I-94 eastbound wishing to access US 52/US 281 via Exit 258 will need to proceed to Exit 260, turn around, and then re-approach Exit 258 from westbound I-94.
  • US 52/US 281 to I-94 Westbound: Drivers on US 52/US 281, whether northbound or southbound, who intend to travel westbound on I-94 will be directed to take eastbound I-94 to Exit 260, turn around, and then head west.

The NDDOT emphasizes the importance of driver awareness and caution in the work zones. Traffic control devices, signage, and flaggers will be in place to guide motorists safely through the affected areas. Drivers are strongly encouraged to reduce speeds, exercise vigilance, and adhere to all posted detour signage for their safety and the safety of construction crews.
