
FARGO – As if proof was necessary, Fargo Post 2 provided proof Wednesday of why it has a big lead in AA Legion baseball.
Post 2 scored big early twice in a doubleheader sweep of the Jamestown Eagles, 12-2 in five innings and 10-0 in six innings at Jack Williams Stadium.
Game 1: Fargo Post 2 12, Jamestown 2 (5)
Post 2 (32-7, 15-0 AA) battered the Eagles and starting pitcher Shane Martin (0-5), scoring 10 runs and 10 hits in a 15-batter first inning. Jonah DeJong hit a three-run double and an RBI triple in the big inning.
Wyatt Kosidowski had three RBI singles, including one that ended the game in the fifth inning. Ben Sheets (7-1) pitched a five-hit complete game with six strikeouts.
Jamestown (11-27, 2-11) scored their runs in the third inning. Ethan Oettle hit a sacrifice fly and Bennett Goehner brought in a run with a ground ball.
Game 2: Fargo Post 2 10, Jamestown 0 (6)
Again, Post 2 (33-7, 16-0 AA) struck early in clinching the top seed for the AA state tournament later this month. Post 2 scored four runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Greyson Dockter hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Caden Nelson drove in three runs.
Levi Sveet (5-1) didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning, finishing with a two-hit shutout and six strikeouts.
Kale Verke (0-1) settled down after the rough first two innings, allowing only two hits over the next three frames.
Jamestown (11-28, 2-12) is now assured of playing on the first day of the AA state tournament in Williston on Monday, July 28, having to win on that day to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
On Friday through Sunday, the Eagles will take part in the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Invitational. Their first opponent will be Fergus Falls on Friday.
