Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Another year of baseball has wrapped up at Cummings Field in Oakes, this time with a dominant victory. Oakes Post 36 came in looking for a win to clinch the 3 seed at the District 7 Tournament and they got it beating Wahpeton Post 20 B’s by a final of 14-1 (5 inn).
The game started well for James Throener as Wahpeton wouldn’t get their first hit until the 3rd inning. Oakes on the other hand would hit around in the 1st inning with a walk, 2 hit batters, and a hit to start off the game as they’d score 5 runs on 3 hits in the first inning. They’d continue scoring in the 2nd inning adding 3 more runs on 3 hits and an error. They would make it a 9-0 lead after scoring 1 more run in the 3rd inning off of 2 hits. P20 on the other hand would get their first two men aboard via singles to lead of the top half of the 4th. However Throener would lock in and induce a weak line drive at the shortstop and a grounder to 3rd to force a double play. P36 would then score 5 runs on 3 hits and an error in the bottom of the 4th to take a 14-0 lead. Wahpeton would end up getting 1 run of 2 hits in the top of the 5th but it wouldn’t matter as Oakes would get the 3 outs needed to secure the 14-1 win and lock up the #3 seed.
James Throener (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 R, 1 ER) got the win while Cooper Koolmo (2.0 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 8 R, 7 ER) got the loss with Kasen Bernstein (2.0 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 6 R, 5 ER) coming in relief.
Game Totals:
P20 – 1 R, 5 H, 2 E, 4 LOB

Total Run Time – 1:13
