VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Friday, July 18th the North Dakota Highway Patrol along with the Valley City Police Department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location near Valley City.

Once the checkpoint is completed saturation patrols will be conducted in Barnes County.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind said these enforcement efforts are meant to deter driving under the influence, encourage responsible driving decisions and saves lives. He talked about the process of the checkpoint.

As of July 6, there have been forty fatalities in 39 crashes on North Dakota roadways, twenty percent of the fatality crashes involved alcohol.
