VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – More than 17-hundred homes and businesses lost power during the June 20th storm that hit Valley City.

Electrical Supervisor Marshall Senf gave this report to the city commission on Tuesday, July 15th. He also reminded residents to report any trees on or threatening to fall on power lines to the city.

Valley City Public Works Director Clint Klemisch said the next citywide tree debris cleanup is set for July 24th.

Public Works spokeswoman Gloria Swart told the city commission that more than 2 million pounds of tree debris have been hauled into the landfill. She said they are currently burning tree debris at the landfill thanks to a burning permit from the state of North Dakota.

The June 20th and 21st storms that brought tornadoes and straight-line winds of more than 100 MPH in the area, damaged or destroyed several homes, businesses, and vehicles. Countless trees were uprooted during the storms, including a few on the campus of Valley City State University.

President Dr. Alan LaFave thanked everyone who helped with the campus clean-up effort after the storm.

Those who are physically able to pick up and load tree debris on to trucks, the collection center is open 24/7 west of the Transfer Station in Valley City.
