The 11:00 am – noon session is a Beginner Bluegrass Jam, featuring easy music and slow paced playing and singing. Most numbers are in the bluegrass-friendly key of G and most use the G and D or D7 chords. The Bluegrass Association of North Dakota is excited to partner with strings teacher Abigail Frederick to bring violin, viola, and, eventually, fiddle instruction to Valley City. Abigail will be assisting with the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota Beginner Bluegrass Jam Class this Saturday, August 9 from 11:00 am – noon at the Vault Coffee Shop and Arts Center. At 12:30 pm she will meet with prospective students and parents and share specific details of her instruction, both for classical violin, viola, and for traditional fiddling and begin scheduling lessons. Note to parents: Area young people learning violin, viola, cello, and double bass have been able to participate in the Jamestown Public Schools Classical Strings Program, grades 4-12.
The afternoon session runs from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and is a regular open acoustic bluegrass jam for musicians with their basic playing skills in place. Instruments included are six-string guitar, fiddle, mandolin, 5-string banjo, Dobro guitar, and upright bass. There is no charge to participate and listeners are welcome.
Both events are sponsored by the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota and the Vault Coffee Shop and Arts Center.  For more information call John Andrus at 701-721-8296.
