CASS COUNTY, N.D. (CCSO) – the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash on Interstate 94 near mile marker 321 around 1:30am Tuesday, August 19th. Deputies were advised that a semi-tractor-trailer had struck multiple cattle that were in the eastbound lane of the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies found the semi-tractor-trailer disabled due to significant damage from the collision, and eight cattle deceased as a result of the crash. With the assistance of the cattle owner and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), all deceased cattle were removed from the roadway, and the owner began properly disposing of them.
During the initial investigation, it appears the cattle gained access to the interstate after the fencing on the owner’s property failed. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, and no citations have been issued to the cattle owner at this time.
The driver of the semi-tractor-trailer was not injured and was provided a ride into the Fargo area.
