The annual, Valley City Town and Country Club, Club Tournament is played every year in mid to late august at the hallowed grounds of VCTCC. This season falls on August 23rd and 24th.

The Championship brings comradery of the membership, passion for the game of golf, and fantastic competition. The year was 1922 when the Country Club Cup was first awarded to Rev. George Caley. There were a few years that our coveted silver cup was not awarded due to the heroic efforts of our nation’s military in wars such as: WWI, WWII, and The Vietnam War.

The annual Championship features five men’s flights (Championship, President’s, Jamie Paurus-First Flight, Roger Ludwig-Second Flight, and Bob Davide-Senior Flight), a lady’s division and recently added a junior division played on the same weekend.

This year’s Championship Division had a slight twist during qualifying, taking the top 24 qualifiers (instead of the top 16) and giving the top 7 qualifiers plus the defending champion a bye into the round of 16.

The top 24 qualifiers were as follows: DC – Travis Ingstad*, 70 – Matt Sorenson, 71 – Jared Lentz*, 73 – Ben Sorenson*, 74 – Jacob Goeden, 74 – Terry Justesen, 75 – Adam Bitz, 78 – TJ Hansen, 78 – Collin Hoss, 79 – Clay Mannie, 80 – Ian Schweitzer, 80 – Trevor Justesen,  82 – John Stearns, 82 – Tom Glandt, 82 – Josh Holm, 82 – Chad Tangen, 83 – Josh Kasowski, 83 – Nate Zerface*, 84 – Dick Weber, 84 – Tom Kellogg, 84 – Tyler Stearns, 85 – Ross Pritchert, 85 – Corey Nelson, 86 – Brian Yanish.

Recently, the Lady’s Club Championship has been revamped to a 2-woman scramble accumulative score 36-hole scramble. Finally, we have our future of the VCTCC, the Junior Club Championship. The field is set with some familiar names and some you won’t forget: Gray Kasowski, Riggs Kasowski, Aiden Hannig, Kallen Hansen, Beck Dietrich, Korbyn Boom and Mercer Boom. These fine youngsters have been grinding all summer to get their game in shape to take home Junior Champion honors. They will tee it up at about noon on Saturday (8/23) and play 18 holes of stroke play to determine who is the deserving champion.

To those of you who took the time to read this story, thank you and I hope you find the time in your weekend to come out to the Valley City Town and Country Club to watch some golf, eat at the (newly renovated) North 9 Bar and Grille, and ask a member why they choose to join the Valley City Town and Country Club. We would love to have you be a part of our family!

Enjoy the walk,

Travis Ingstad
