VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Valley City State topped a team with national recognition to start a weekend road trip Thursday.

The Vikings topped Morningside, a team receiving votes in the national poll, 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12) Thursday night in Sioux City, IA.

Macy Fridgen led the Vikings with 13 kills, with Danielle Hagler knocking down nine on a .450 hitting percentage.  Gracie Schumacher registered 22 assists, and Maddie Bogenreif added 19.  JayCee Richter notched 28 digs.

The Vikings face #13 Oklahoma Wesleyan and #7 Northwestern Friday.
