Oakes, ND (Stronger Together Foundation) – After more than 35 years of community-driven cancer fundraising through the Dickey/LaMoure Relay for Life, a new chapter is beginning with the launch of the Stronger Together Foundation.
The Relay for Life events have long been a cornerstone of support in Dickey and LaMoure counties, bringing together neighbors, families, and survivors in a shared mission to fight cancer. Now, the Dickey/LaMoure Stronger Together Foundation will carry that legacy forward—while ensuring that 100% of funds raised stay local to support patients and families right here at home.
“These counties have shown up year after year for over three decades,” said a foundation spokesperson. “We’re proud to build on that history and deepen our impact locally.”
The Dickey/LaMoure Stronger Together Foundation was born out of a shared passion and deep-rooted empathy for those in our local communities battling cancer. We saw firsthand how cancer can turn lives upside down, not only for those diagnosed but also for their families and support systems. The emotional, physical, and financial burdens are overwhelming, and navigating through them often feels isolating. Our mission is to offer support through monetary donations to Dickey and Lamoure County residents fighting cancer. We wanted to create a community of hope, strength, and unity, where people could feel empowered, uplifted, and connected with others who truly understand their struggles. Together, we are stronger—able to face even the hardest challenges with compassion, solidarity, and the belief that together, we can overcome anything.
Longtime volunteer and cancer survivor Vickie Kelly reflected on the transition:
“I remember walking that cancer journey in 2011 and speaking to some other survivors at a local survivor event. It was emotional, powerful, and healing. Knowing that Dickey/LaMoure Stronger Together Foundation will keep that spirit alive—and keep the money right here—is something truly special.”
The foundation’s first fundraiser will be the Dickey/LaMoure Stronger Together Foundation Telethon & Silent Auction, Wednesday, October 1st at The Edge, LLB.
