VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Valley City woman is facing three counts of exploitation of an eligible adult after she allegedly admitted she stole money from her clients at the Open Door Center.

According to court documents, one worker at the Open Door Center noticed a discrepancy in the funds of three accounts totaling $1,500. When that worker confronted Brook Rufsvold about the missing funds, she reportedly gave her a written confession of the theft.

The coworker reported the theft to the police, providing the confession. When police asked Rufsvold about the issue, she allegedly confirmed her confession.

In court documentation, Rufsvold says she stole the money due to her “compulsive gambling addiction” and that she feels terribly about it. She reportedly told police she asked for the money to be taken from her last paycheck and returned to the clients, which she claimed took place.

Her next court appearance is set for September 9.
