VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The countdown begins as 4-H’ers prepare to celebrate Barnes County 4-H Week from September 7-12, 2025. This annual event recognizes the significant impact that 4-H has on the lives of young people, their families, and communities. With the theme “Beyond Ready” 4-H Week
2025 will highlight the valuable opportunities that 4-H provides for youth development, leadership, and community involvement.

4-H, the largest youth development organization in the United States, serves over 6 million young people, providing them with hands-on learning experiences that promote positive youth development. Through a diverse range of programs ranging from agriculture and science to health and citizenship 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential.

About 4-H
4-H is the youth development program of our nation’s Cooperative Extension System and USDA. The program is grounded in the belief that youth learn best by doing. For more than 100 years, 4-H has helped young people develop the skills they need to lead for a lifetime. Today, 4-H empowers young people to be leaders in their communities through experiences that develop their potential in areas like agriculture, science, health, and citizenship.

Why 4-H Week Matters
The theme of this year’s Barnes County 4-H Week is “Beyond Ready.” This theme celebrates how 4-H is building a ready generation in a world of change, equipping youth with skills for the future while meeting them where they are today. Becoming Beyond Ready encompasses opportunities and experiences, connections and discovery, shaping youth into their true and authentic selves.  During Barnes County 4-H Week, 4-H clubs, members, volunteers, and alumni will engage in activities designed to raise awareness of the impact 4-H has on communities and encourage more youth to join the program.

“4-H teaches essential life skills like leadership, communication, and teamwork. These are the skills that not only prepare youth for future careers but also enable them to become active, responsible citizens,” said Susan Milender, NDSU Extension Agent in Barnes County.
