JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Nurses often work behind the scenes, and their contributions aren’t always publicly recognized.

The Nurse Honor Guard provides dignity and closure to families and acknowledges the sacrifices and compassion nurses give throughout their careers with a tribute ceremony during the visitation, funeral, memorial service, or at the graveside.

The volunteer-run Jamestown chapter began in August of 2025 and provides a free tribute to nurses who passed away within a 50-mile radius surrounding Jamestown. Services outside this area will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on volunteer availability.

Sydney Johnson has been organizing the Jamestown Chapter with the assistance of the other two board members, Teree Rittenbach, and Robin Iszler.

Families of deceased nurses can request the Jamestown Nurse Honor Guard by emailing them at nurseshonorguardjamestown@gmail.com. To join the Jamestown Chapter or to become a volunteer please use the same email or message them on Facebook or Instagram or contact one of the board members above.

If you would like the Jamestown Nurse Honor Guard to perform a tribute, please talk to your funeral director, clergy, or contact a board member. This tribute is free of charge and can be conducted any time during the visitation, funeral, memorial service, or at the graveside.

Donations are welcomed and appreciated to allow the Honor Guard to continue delivering this service to deceased nurses and their families. Donations can be sent to: Jamestown Nurse Honor Guard PO Box 345 Jamestown, ND 58402.
